Summer FanWork Contest 2006
When
we held a poll way back in the Spring, there was one comment that
stood out above all others - Contests are Good. We like them, you
like them, and we can only assume that the people who lurk on the
site like them too. So, since we have to do something to
celebrate entering our landmark 5th year, and we have a
newly-updated archive sitting all sparkly in the corner, we
thought it was about time we held another one.
To be
a little different this time, we've decided that we want to see
people trying to expand what we know/think about canon,
particularly the canon surrounding our favourite Dark Lord. So,
we're looking for entries that introduce something new to the HP
Universe, be it a new character, a new location, or some new
magical spell/device. All our members are well-known for their
inventiveness, so this should give you all a good chance to show
that talent off, in either artwork or fiction. Essentially, any
entry that genuinely brings a new idea to the HP universe will be
good enough, and if you want to bounce ideas off other people
before you get started, there will be the usual Contest Thread
open at our
forums. Conspiracy theorists among you might think that we
want people to think about things like new characters in
preparation for the TBC RPG - but we know what happens to
conspiracy theorists, right?
As
usual, the contest is open to anyone, though you have to be
registered on the TBC FanWork Archive, as you will have to
upload your entry there! If you aren't registered yet, then we
suggest you register now, in order to avoid any potential rush
later on. Judging will take place through an open poll on the
forums, so it may be an idea to register on the forums as well, so
that you get your fair say in the voting. To enter, you must
upload your piece of fanwork to the appropriate category of the
TBC FanWork Archive, with the words 'Summer
Fanwork Contest 2006' or similar written into the fanwork
description. They must be uploaded to the system before 11.59pm
(Board Time/Central US) on Sunday 20th August. That gives
you just under 4 weeks to put your entries together, so you'd
better read the rest of this page quick so you can get started!
CONTEST GUIDELINES
Your story or picture must contain Tom Riddle/Voldemort as a main
character, and must contain at least one original character,
setting or magical device. This must be an integral part of the
story/picture - drawing a normal picture that just happens to have
a new magical item on a shelf in the background isn't going to cut
it. Songfics, multi-chaptered
fics and artwork series are acceptable, but it would be best if
any series was complete by the contest deadline. (Voters and
reviewers would probably prefer it too!) AU submissions are
also allowed, although please follow canon as much as you possibly
can.
Following our usual pattern, we've provided a few ideas that you
can use if you're lacking inspiration, but anything that follows
the rules above is perfectly acceptable. If you're still
struggling for ideas, then come make a request on our Contest
Thread, and we're sure someone will oblige you.
Summer FanWork
Contest Challenges:
1. An intellect like Tom/Voldemort's would surely have
invented a few spells during their day - show us one of
these new spells in action.
2. Tell us, just what the heck was Voldemort doing
for the 10 years or so after his downfall, before he
re-emerged on the back of Quirrell's head?
3. Tom Riddle, during his time at the orphanage, had a
certain kleptomaniac tendency to him - write/draw something
showing the first piece to be placed in his collection.
4. Draw a picture / Write a story of what Tom Riddle/
Voldemort would do if he had a Time Turner.
5. We already know a couple of stories from Riddle's time at
the orphanage - tell us another tale of Riddle's
pre-Hogwarts days.
6. Tom Riddle was already known as Lord Voldemort to a
select few while he was at Hogwarts - show us how the very
first follower came into Riddle's inner circle.
7. Nobody is certain exactly what Voldemort's final Horcrux
might be - either draw this mysterious Horcrux in detail, or
tell the story of how it was made.
8. Show us what Voldemort will actually do when he's taken
over the world, in either art or fiction.
9. "I can make things move without touching them. I can make
animals do what I want them to do, without training them. I
can make bad things happen to people who annoy me. I can
make them hurt if I want to." - Riddle's own words, when he
first met Dumbledore. Show us how he learned about having
such powers. (Note: This may mean an A18-rated piece of
work.)
10. Write the story of the first attack made by the Death
Eaters, including the Dark Mark. (Note: This may mean an
A18-rated piece of work.) |
