Contests

Valentine, Sweet Valentine...

That's right, the annual celebration of making those of us in relationships feel smug and those of us not feel lonely is almost upon us - at the time of writing, we're about 3 weeks away from Singles' Awareness Day.  Love is in the air, people - despite our best efforts to shoot it down.  (Evasive little bugger, that cupid.)  Since we're all going to be spending the next couple of weeks feeling either very loved-up or very lonely, we wanted to give everyone their due opportunity to flex their creative muscles, and to show us some of our favourite characters in the true spirit of the 'season'.  For this contest, we're looking for entries where romance is the main feature - feel free to show some of our best-known characters getting their heart's desire, or show us just what becomes of the brokenhearted.  The choice, as they say, is yours!

Your entry doesn't specifically have to be set on Valentine's Day, but it must include a strong romantic/heartbreak element to it.  As with our previous contest, we're opening this up to any fanwork that's based around a member of the glorious house of Slytherin - be it the Dark Lord himself, Snape, Malfoy, Slughorn, etc., etc.  The usual TBC Contest rules apply, and can be found at the bottom of the page as always.  Entries should be uploaded to the TBC Fanwork Archive by 11.59pm [Board Time/Central US] on the 14th of February.  (Wow, I bet nobody saw that deadline coming...)  Judging, as ever, will take place through an open poll on the forums, so any lurkers may also want to get themselves signed up there, too.

CONTEST GUIDELINES

Your story or picture must feature a member of Slytherin House as a main character, and romance must be a integral feature of the plot - you can decide for yourselves if love triumphs over all or if heartbreak is more the order of the day.  AU entries are fine, as are multi-chaptered fics or artwork series, as usual.  If you're not sure what you're thinking of is alright, then just pop by the forums and ask.

We've created some challenges again, which can be used if you feel like it, but we always love to see other people's ideas too...  (We'll do something a little more original for our next contest, promise.)  The contest thread on the forums is always a good place to visit for inspiration too.

Contest Challenges:

1. Presumably, there was at least a facade of romance when Lucius met Narcissa - show us one of those early dates between the two.
2. Can anyone else see Horace Slughorn having much to do on Singles' Awareness Day?  No, nor can we - prove us wrong.
3. Give us some art/fic based on the next generation getting their romance on.
4. According to JKR, Tom Riddle never knew love.  That doesn't mean nobody felt the same for him - portray this unrequited longing on the behalf of some luckless romantic.
5. On the other hand, if you think that Tom did have more of a romantic bent to him, show all the delights that a dark heart can offer - to Bellatrix, Hermione, , any Tomship of your choice.
6. For all the mistakes he made in his life, Snape did give his life for the woman he loved, and died staring into 'her' eyes.  Show us their reunion, in the world-beyond-the-living.
7. Your prompt is - 'Draco and Astoria, sitting in a tree...'.  Make anything you like out of that.
8. Those poor, unloved Valentine's Dwarves haven't been seen since Chamber of Secrets - somebody stage a comeback for them!
9. We all know that Bellatrix has only eyes for one man, and it's not the one she's married to.  Give us a nice, mournful Singles' Awareness Day for Rodolphus Lestrange.
10. Only a short distance from romance... comes obsession.  Show any Slytherin crossing that line, and taking romance to that darker place.  (NB. This could enter A18-rated territory.)
