Golden Basilisk
Awards
As many of you will be aware, 2007 is a bit of a landmark year for
us at The Basilisk Cafe - we're celebrating our own fifth anniversary,
as well as standing with the rest of the fandom in celebrating the upcoming
release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the tenth
anniversary of Harry Potter's first outing hitting shelves for the very
first time. So, in honour of these huge events, we're doing
something a little bit special to celebrate - and what better way to do so
than by recognising the contribution of the entire Harry Potter fandom,
or at least as much of it as we can reach in time?
The Golden Basilisk
Awards are our attempt to do just that, by making it possible for sites from
all corners of the fandom to compete for awards in a variety of categories,
so that their accomplishments can be given some small reward. (We're
far from the first to do this - we've even won a few awards ourselves, in
our time - but if TV stations can churn out ceremony after ceremony, why
can't Internet fandom, eh?) By far the most important thing we want to
achieve though, is to give us all an opportunity to stand up and shout about
the sites we're so proud of, to put ourselves out there for others to see,
and maybe even to forge some new links with sites that we might otherwise
never know existed.
If you've entered an awards contest before, you'll already know what to do, and you'll know that the links in the top-right corner should be all you need.
For those who aren't so experienced, it's still a simple process - first, go to the Categories page to see which awards your site might be eligible for. Once you've chosen, check out the Rules for the contest, to make sure they're nothing you don't feel happy with, and select a Link Button to post on your site, so that your members will be able to give you their support when the time comes. Finally, send us the details of your site and selected categories on the Nominations page, and remember to spread the word to your members when the Voting starts on the 24th of July.
