Golden Basilisk Awards 2009

These days, the HP fandom feels a lot like the Yule Ball after midnight - a huge space, once filled with so much activity, but now filled with only a few scattered pockets of people, drifting ever further away from each other.  So, in the spirit of bringing some of these disparate groups together, and to celebrate the upcoming release of the Half-Blood Prince movie, we're hosting the second season of our fansite awards, the Golden Basilisks.  Anyone who remembers the previous season, which ran in 2007 for the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will know the score already, and many more will be familiar with the concept and procedure for fansite awards from other sites.

For the new season, we've re-tooled our awards to remove the less-than-successful house-specific categories - of the five house categories last time, three produced uncontested winners and the other two had no nominees at all - and to add three new categories to replace them.  Best New Site is available for any sites that opened since the last round, while Best Veteran Site is open to any longer-serving ones.  Our final new category, Best Resources, seeks to reward sites offering resources to help others improve their own sites/fanwork - something that's becoming all the more important, now that we're all driven by fanon far more than by canon.

If you entered last time, you'll already know what to do, and all the links you'll need can be found in the top-right corner of the page.  For those who aren't so experienced, it's still a simple process - first, go to the Categories page to see which awards your site might be eligible for.  Once you've chosen, check out the Rules for the contest, to make sure there's nothing there you aren't happy with, and select a Link Button to post on your site, so that your members will be able to give you their support when the time comes.  Finally, send us the details of your site and selected categories on the Nominations page, and remember to spread the word to your members when the Voting starts on the 25th of July.
