Golden Basilisk Awards
- Categories
There are 10 open categories in the Golden
Basilisks, each of which is available for you to nominate your site
to. However, not all sites will be eligible for all categories, and it
would not be possible for any site to enter all 10 - as such, you'll want to
pick your categories carefully. There is no limit to how many
categories your site can enter, so you can select as many as your site is eligible
for. Read through the descriptions below to get an idea of what each
category is about, and then head over to the Nominations
page.
Best Domain
The best domain category is for sites that have purchased their own web
domain, rather than being hosted by someone else. Entrants in this
category must be based solely on Harry Potter - multi-fandom sites with a HP
section should be entered into the 'Best Subdomain' category.
Best Subdomain/Hosted Site
This category is open to all those who operate a website that borrows
space from another domain - either a subdomain on another site, or free webspace
providers like Yahoo! GeoCities or Angelfire. Communities on
LiveJournal and MySpace are also eligible for this category.
Best New Site
This category, a new addition for the 2009 round, is open to any website
that has been operating since the last round of the Golden Basilisk Awards -
specifically, any site that was launched from August 2007 onwards.
Best Veteran Site
The obvious counterpart to the category above, this award is open to all
sites that have been running for longer than two years. Any sites
which entered for awards in our last round should find this category of particular
interest.
Best Content
If your site prides itself on having a wide variety of content, then this category
is one you won't want to miss - examples of content might include
editorials, media galleries, news reporting, canon guides, and so on.
Best Fanwork
Fanwork - by which we mean fanart, fanfiction, and any other
fan-generated materials - is an important feature of many HP sites out
there. If yours would fit that description, a nomination in this
category is a must.
Best Forums
It's quite simple. Do you have a forum? If the answer is
'yes', then this is a category you might be interested in. Non-public
forums are allowed, but remember it means many voters won't be able to see
what you have to offer.
Best Site Name
We normally expect this one to be hotly contested -
after all, every site has a name, whether it's based on canon, derived from
fanon, or made up on the spot. But if you feel your sobriquet is
special or your moniker magical, throw your hat in the ring.
Best Resources
We've always been impressed with the variety of resources sites contain
to help others improve their own sites and fanwork - tutorials, writing
tips, beta-reading programs, site hosting, and so on. The Best
Resources award seeks to reward such endeavour.
Best RPG
Any and all Harry Potter-related Role-Playing Games should be entered into this
category - any kind of role-playing is acceptable, whether forum-based, or centered
around a blog network.
In addition to the categories above, the TBC Crew will be
granting a special award - The Golden Basilisk - to one standout site
that we think is worthy. (That's just one - regardless of how many
entries we get.) Every single site in the awards will be considered,
no matter how large the site is, or how popular. We'll be taking a lot
of things into account, including the votes we've received, our own
opinions, how original the site is, how much we fancy the webmaster, what
they've achieved since starting, how big a bribe they're offering, how
long they've been running, how user-friendly it is, use of graphics, and so
on. (Note: Some items on this list may not be entirely serious.)
